Leadership Research

In April 2023, Alexa presented original research on leadership lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. After analyzing data from over 30 hours of interviews with public health leaders who served on the COVID-19 and Mpox frontlines, she shared these findings with Registered Dietitians, Dietetic Interns, and students at the CANDAC23 nutrition conference in Long Beach, CA.

Washington state Senate testimony: HB 1272

In March 2019, Alexa testified on behalf of HB1272, alongside the Anti-Hunger Nutrition Coalition and the Washington State Parent Teacher Association. Passed in 2019, this bill allows Washington state legislature to study expanded seated school lunch time. Initial research suggests that when public school students have expanded seated lunch time, fruit, vegetable, and milk intake increase 11-13%, thus increasing vitamin, mineral, and fiber intake.
